Short report on the eclipse experience:

My mother and I (I study mathematics at the Vienna University of Technology) travelled to Madrid (Spain) for one week to observe the annular eclipse of 3rd October 2005 there. We arrived at Madrid on Saturday, 1st October 2005 (via plane from Vienna). There were no clouds in the sky during the whole week, and the weather was even better on the day of the eclipse :-)
On Sunday, the day before the eclipse, we looked for an appropriate observation site in Madrid. At Planetario de Madrid , we got the possibility to join the observation at the Campus of Universidad Complutense de Madrid , because of the great kindness of the director of the planetarium and his collegue (?). The university offered a football field to amateur astronomers from all over the world to observe the eclipse there with their own equipment (organized by Jaime Zamorano). The observation with own eqiupment would not have been possible at Planetario de Madrid because of the many people there. So Muchas Gracias to the director of the planetarium.
On 3rd October 2005, the day of the eclipse, we went to the Campus of the University very early to have the chance to prepare everything. Nevertheless, I didn't succeed in starting my automatic exposures of the sun and the landscape in time to capture the first contact. Apart from that, everything worked quite well, and we could observe the eclipse from the beginning to the end, without any clouds.
Furthermore, Muchas Gracias to Elena for ordering a taxi for us, to get back to our hotel.

(By the way, it should be clear anyway, but it cannot be mentioned too often: Never observe the sun without appropriate protection, otherwise irreversible damage to your eye may result.)
